An Ovitrap is an artificial breeding site to capture mosquito eggs and trap newborn mosquitos. Skeet-O-Trap works by creating an ideal breeding ground for pregnant mosquitos to lay their eggs in. When the larva hatch, they crawl thru the screen to drink the water in the bottom of the trap. The Larva grow fast and are too big to make it back out through the floating screen, preventing the baby mosquitos from escaping, killing off and effectively reducing the next generation of mosquito population.
Skeet-O-Trap is a preventative practice that you should have started last year.
If you start using Skeet-O-Trap in spring, you may begin to notice less mosquitos by the end of summer or early fall.
You can expect Skeet-O-Trap to reduce mosquito numbers for next year.
In the meantime, adult female mosquitos will continue to bite.
Skeet-O-Trap is a preventative practice that works great in the long run, but it does not provide instantaneous mosquito relief.
Its a good idea to find the best backyard mosquito repellents to protect yourself outside while you wait for the Ovi Trap to go into full effect.
Your local mosquito population will be reduced if you use the Ovi Trap properly, being sure to remove all other stagnant water and potential breeding grounds.
If you start using the trap too late in the season, you can expect dormant mosquito eggs to hatch next summer.
Skeet-O-Trap will not work if mosquitos find stagnant water outside the trap to lay eggs in.
Please Note: For an average-sized yard it’s recommended that you install 1 – 2 traps. Place traps away from patios, etc. to repel mosquitos away from the outdoor spaces you frequently use.
Skeet-o-Trap's efficacy increases when you eliminate other protentional breeding grounds in your yard, i.e. anywhere where water sits and stagnates.
For optimal results, place the traps in cool, shady areas out of the wind.
