First, lay out the shape of the edging placement using string, rope or a garden hose. Using a rubber mallet, pound one side into the ground approximately 1X to 2X while holding the other end. Then pound in the other side 1X to 2X. Repeat until edging is installed to the desired depth (2-1/2″ to 3″ showing is generally recommended). Continue with additional pieces by sliding the beaded end into the channel end and repeat the process above, holding down the piece previously installed. It is sometimes necessary in harder ground to drive a piece only half way down, before engaging the next one, then hammer them down together, adding the next one etc.
